Prediction of Alcohol Withdrawal Severity Scale
Predicts risk of severe alcohol withdrawal in hospitalized patients.
Use in patients ≥18 years old admitted to general floor, with or without history of alcohol abuse. Do not use in patients with active or uncontrolled seizure disorder.

Jose R. Maldonado, MD, FACLP, is the John & Terry Levin Family professor of medicine and a professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Stanford University Medical Center. He is also the Chief of the Division of Medical Psychiatry and Medical Director of the Critical Care Psychiatry Service at Stanford University Medical Center. Dr. Maldonado’s research focuses primarily on solid organ transplantation, delirium, and neuropathophysiology of alcohol withdrawal syndrome. He is board certified in General Psychiatry, Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry, Forensic Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine.
