Phoenix Sepsis Score
Evaluates for sepsis and septic shock in children.
Use in pediatric patients with suspected sepsis. Age is not adjusted for prematurity and the criteria should not be used in patients who are ≥18 years of age or preterm (<37 weeks gestation at birth). The score should not be used during birth hospitalizations.

Luregn J. Schlapbach, MD, is the head of the pediatric and neonatal intensive care unit at the University Children’s Hospital in Zurich, Switzerland. He also maintains an active research program on sepsis, infection, and inflammation in critically ill children at the Child Health Research Center at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia. Dr. Schlapbach’s primary research is focused on sepsis and life-threatening infections in critically ill neonates and children, including aspects such as epidemiology, sepsis markers, and genomics.
